Beach Our two hotels for all 6 days of our trip were in the Kaanapali Beach area. That is on the extreme west side of Maui looking across to Molokai. For the first 3 days we had a beautiful suite at the Westin Ocean Resort Villas, then we moved down the road about a mile to the Westin Maui Hotel. |
These two photos show the view from our room's lanai at The Villas."

We spotted this large animal at the shoreline. At first we thought it was a turtle. It is a monk seal. They are big, about 5 feet long, between the size of a harbor seal and an elephant seal. The lady with the umbrella was asked to move and the beach guards put up "Do not disturb"| signs (or words to that effect) to give the seal his/her privacy.

The Sheraton Maui is located at Black Rock, a lava promontory, which is between the two Westin hotels. It's a very scenic spot with a beautiful beach.

Just south of the hotels along Ka'anapali Beach is the main town in West Maui, Lahaina. There is a banyan tree there that takes up an entire city block. It is hard to capture in a photo, but maybe this panorama shot comes close.
